Structural Plasticity

Meaning

Structural Plasticity refers to the dynamic, physical remodeling of the brain’s anatomical components, specifically the changes in neuronal morphology, synaptic density, and the volume of grey and white matter, in response to physiological and environmental demands. This process is the physical substrate for learning, memory, and cognitive adaptation throughout life. Optimal hormonal signaling is a key prerequisite for maintaining this capacity for structural modification and repair.
