Stroke

Meaning

A stroke, or cerebrovascular accident (CVA), is a severe and acute medical event resulting from an interruption of blood supply to a region of the brain, leading to cell death and subsequent neurological deficit. Strokes are broadly classified as ischemic, caused by a blockage like a blood clot, or hemorrhagic, caused by bleeding into the brain tissue. This catastrophic event represents a critical breakdown in cerebrovascular health, often linked to underlying risk factors such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, and hormonal imbalances. Prompt recognition and intervention are vital for minimizing permanent brain injury and functional impairment.
