Strobolome

Meaning

Strobolome, more accurately termed the Estrobolome, is the aggregate of enteric bacterial genes and their resulting enzymes within the gut microbiome that are capable of metabolizing and modulating circulating estrogens. This microbial gene collection plays a crucial, direct role in hormonal health by influencing the enterohepatic circulation of estrogens. The functional state of the estrobolome dictates whether conjugated, inactive estrogens are reactivated and reabsorbed into the systemic circulation or excreted from the body.
