Stress Testing

Meaning

Stress Testing, in the context of pharmaceutical development, is a controlled laboratory procedure that subjects a drug substance or its final product to extreme environmental and chemical conditions, such as high heat, intense light, high humidity, or extreme pH. The deliberate goal is to force the drug to degrade and thereby identify its inherent stability characteristics and all potential degradation products. This is a critical part of quality assurance for all hormonal formulations.
