Stress Response Blunting

Meaning

Stress Response Blunting is a clinical term for the therapeutic reduction of the magnitude and duration of the body’s physiological reaction to acute or chronic stressors, primarily mediated by the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. The goal is to prevent excessive or prolonged release of stress hormones, such as cortisol, which can lead to systemic inflammation, immune dysfunction, and hormonal imbalances. This blunting promotes resilience and homeostatic stability.
