Stress Hormone Dysregulation

Meaning

Stress Hormone Dysregulation describes a state where the body’s production and metabolism of hormones involved in the stress response, primarily cortisol and catecholamines, deviate significantly from the healthy diurnal rhythm and appropriate magnitude. This is not simply high stress, but a pathological alteration of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, leading to chronic low-grade inflammation, impaired immune function, metabolic disturbances, and sleep disruption. It is a common underlying cause of hormonal imbalance.
