Stress and Testosterone

Meaning

Stress and Testosterone describes the inverse relationship observed between chronic psychological or physiological stress and circulating levels of testosterone, particularly in males. Elevated sustained cortisol, the primary glucocorticoid response to stress, is implicated in the suppression of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis, leading to diminished androgen production. This interaction is a fundamental aspect of the body’s adaptive response to adversity.
