Stress Adaptation Resilience

Meaning

Stress adaptation resilience is the integrated biological capacity of an individual to effectively respond to, rapidly recover from, and successfully maintain systemic homeostasis following exposure to acute or chronic physical, emotional, or metabolic stressors. This measure of robustness is primarily governed by the efficiency and dynamic responsiveness of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis and the autonomic nervous system. High resilience is characterized by a rapid, appropriate stress response followed by a quick, complete return to the physiological baseline, which is a crucial determinant of long-term health and longevity.
