Stress Adaptation Pathways

Meaning

The interconnected, conserved biological and cellular signaling cascades, primarily involving the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis, the sympathetic nervous system, and the immune system, that are activated in response to physiological or psychological challenges. These pathways function to restore homeostasis by coordinating the release of stress hormones, altering gene expression, and initiating cellular repair mechanisms. The efficiency of these pathways determines an individual’s resilience and capacity to recover from stress.
