Stress Absorption

Meaning

Stress Absorption is the physiological and psychological capacity of an individual to buffer and effectively mitigate the disruptive effects of internal or external stressors on homeostatic balance. This capacity is primarily mediated by the functional integrity of the neuroendocrine system, particularly the HPA axis and the autonomic nervous system. A high capacity for absorption minimizes the allostatic load, preventing chronic activation of the stress response and protecting tissues from cortisol-induced catabolism and inflammation. This is a critical metric of biological resilience and adaptability.
