Strength Training Plateaus

Meaning

Strength training plateaus refer to a clinical and physiological state where an individual’s progress in muscle strength, power, or hypertrophy has stalled despite continued, consistent training effort. This stagnation is often a direct result of underlying systemic factors that limit the body’s anabolic capacity, such as chronic overtraining, inadequate caloric or protein intake, or hormonal imbalances. Identifying and addressing these physiological limitations is key to resuming progressive overload and achieving further adaptation.
