Steroidogenic Pathway

Meaning

The Steroidogenic Pathway is the complex, multi-enzyme biochemical cascade responsible for the sequential synthesis of all endogenous steroid hormones from the common precursor, cholesterol. This pathway is compartmentalized, occurring primarily within the adrenal glands, gonads, and placenta. It is the fundamental process that governs the production of mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, and sex steroids.
