Steroidogenesis Alteration

Meaning

Steroidogenesis Alteration refers to any physiological or pharmacological modification of the biochemical pathways responsible for the synthesis of steroid hormones, including glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, and sex steroids, from their cholesterol precursor. This alteration can result in either an increase or decrease in the final hormone product or a shift in the relative proportions of various steroid metabolites. Clinical intervention often targets specific enzymes in this pathway to manage conditions like congenital adrenal hyperplasia or hormone-dependent cancers.
