Steroid Hormones

Meaning

Steroid Hormones are a class of lipid-soluble signaling molecules synthesized from cholesterol, including the sex hormones (testosterone, estrogen, progesterone) and corticosteroids (cortisol, aldosterone). Their lipophilic nature allows them to easily traverse the cell membrane to interact with intracellular or nuclear receptors. These hormones regulate fundamental processes like metabolism, inflammation, and reproduction.
