STAT5b

Meaning

STAT5b is a specific isoform of the Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 5 (STAT5) family of proteins, functioning as a critical intracellular transcription factor that mediates the signaling of numerous cytokines and peptide hormones, most notably Growth Hormone (GH) and Prolactin. Upon activation, this protein translocates to the cell nucleus where it binds to specific DNA sequences, regulating the transcription of target genes essential for growth, metabolism, and immune function. Its role in mediating the effects of Growth Hormone is particularly important, as it drives the hepatic production of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) and influences sex-specific differences in GH action.
