STAT5 Signaling

Meaning

The Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 5 (STAT5) signaling pathway, a crucial intracellular communication cascade that mediates the biological effects of numerous hormones and cytokines, most notably growth hormone and prolactin. Upon receiving an external signal, STAT5 proteins dimerize, translocate to the nucleus, and bind to specific DNA response elements, thereby regulating the transcription of genes vital for cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. This pathway is essential for normal development, hematopoiesis, and immune system function.
