Stanozolol-SHBG Challenge

Meaning

The Stanozolol-SHBG Challenge is a specialized, dynamic diagnostic test involving the administration of a small, standardized dose of the synthetic anabolic steroid stanozolol to evaluate the functional reserve and responsiveness of hepatic Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) production. Stanozolol is a known, potent inducer of liver SHBG synthesis. The challenge measures the subsequent quantitative change in circulating SHBG levels, providing unique insight into the liver’s capacity to regulate the bioavailability of sex hormones. This is a highly specific, dynamic tool for assessing liver-endocrine axis function, particularly in cases of suspected SHBG dysregulation.
