SREBP1

Meaning

SREBP1, or Sterol Regulatory Element-Binding Protein 1, is a key transcription factor that controls the genetic programming for lipid synthesis. It plays a central role in regulating the production of fatty acids, triglycerides, and cholesterol within cells. The two primary isoforms, SREBP1a and SREBP1c, exhibit specific functions in metabolic pathways, with SREBP1c being particularly important for lipogenesis in the liver.
