Spermatogenesis Reversibility

Meaning

Spermatogenesis reversibility refers to the capacity of the testes to restart or restore the complex process of sperm production after it has been temporarily suppressed or impaired, often due to exogenous factors such as hormone therapy or environmental toxins. Clinically, this is a critical consideration in male fertility preservation and recovery protocols following testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or chemotherapy. The degree and timeline of reversibility are dependent on the duration and nature of the suppressive agent and the underlying integrity of the germinal epithelium. Successful reversal is defined by the return of clinically viable sperm counts and motility.
