Sperm sncRNA

Meaning

Sperm sncRNA refers to the population of small non-coding RNA molecules, including microRNAs and piwi-interacting RNAs, carried within the mature sperm cell that are not translated into proteins but instead regulate gene expression in the early embryo. These molecules are a critical component of paternal epigenetic inheritance, transmitting information about the father’s environmental exposures, diet, and physiological state to the next generation. The profile of these sncRNAs is a direct indicator of male germline health.
