Sperm Maturation

Meaning

Sperm Maturation, clinically referred to as spermatogenesis and spermiogenesis, is the complex and highly regulated biological process by which immature germ cells within the testes differentiate into fully functional, motile spermatozoa capable of fertilization. This multi-stage process involves both cell division and dramatic morphological remodeling, including the formation of the head, midpiece, and flagellum. Optimal maturation is a critical determinant of male fertility and is strictly dependent on a precise hormonal milieu.
