Sperm DNA Integrity

Meaning

Sperm DNA integrity refers to the quality and completeness of the genetic material contained within the head of the spermatozoon, a critical factor for successful fertilization and healthy embryonic development. Damage to this DNA, often measured by the Sperm DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI), can result from oxidative stress, apoptosis, or defective chromatin packaging. Maintaining high integrity is a primary clinical goal in male reproductive health and is a key predictor of fertility outcomes.
