SOS1

Meaning

SOS1, or Son of sevenless homolog 1, is a human protein that functions as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF), a crucial molecular switch in intracellular signal transduction pathways. It is an upstream activator of the Ras and Rac small GTPase proteins, which are central to regulating cell growth, proliferation, and differentiation. Mutations in the SOS1 gene are clinically associated with developmental disorders like Noonan syndrome, highlighting its importance in cell signaling.
