Somatotropic Signaling Fidelity

Meaning

Somatotropic Signaling Fidelity refers to the optimal, accurate transmission and efficient reception of signals within the Growth Hormone (GH) and Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) axis, which is collectively known as the somatotropic axis. High fidelity means the GH released by the pituitary gland effectively stimulates the liver to produce IGF-1, and critically, that target tissues accurately and robustly respond to these essential growth signals. Declining fidelity, a common feature of aging, inevitably leads to reduced anabolic drive and systemic tissue atrophy.
