Somatotropic Signaling Deficit

Meaning

This describes a functional impairment in the signaling pathway mediated by Growth Hormone (GH) and its primary mediator, Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1). The Somatotropic Signaling Deficit can manifest as reduced GH secretion from the pituitary, decreased hepatic IGF-1 production, or impaired receptor sensitivity at target tissues. This impairment is a hallmark of somatopause and contributes significantly to sarcopenia, central adiposity, and reduced vitality.
