Somatotropic Rhythm

Meaning

The distinct, pulsatile pattern of Growth Hormone (GH) secretion from the anterior pituitary gland, which follows a predictable, often sleep-dependent, circadian and ultradian rhythm throughout the day. This rhythm is critical for maintaining metabolic health interconnections, cellular repair, and body composition. Disruptions to the somatotropic rhythm, frequently observed with aging or poor sleep architecture, can contribute to endocrine deficiencies and reduced performance beyond forty.
