Somatotropic Cells

Meaning

Somatotropic Cells are a specific population of acidophilic cells located in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland, which are solely responsible for the synthesis and pulsatile secretion of Growth Hormone (GH), also known as somatotropin. These cells are the primary endocrine source of the hormone that regulates somatic growth, cellular reproduction, and metabolism throughout the lifespan. Their robust function is directly regulated by hypothalamic signaling and peripheral feedback loops, making them central to anabolism and repair.
