Somatotropic Axis Integrity

Meaning

Somatotropic axis integrity refers to the robust, uncompromised functional state of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Somatotroph-Liver axis, which governs the production and action of Growth Hormone (GH) and Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1). High integrity ensures the appropriate pulsatile secretion of GH and the corresponding systemic anabolic and metabolic signaling via IGF-1. Maintaining this integrity is vital for tissue repair, lean body mass, bone density, and overall metabolic health throughout the lifespan. Declining integrity is a hallmark of the age-related condition known as somatopause.
