Somatotropic Axis Balance

Meaning

Somatotropic Axis Balance describes the optimal functional equilibrium between the primary components of the growth hormone (GH) axis: the hypothalamic release of Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) and Somatostatin, the pituitary secretion of GH, and the hepatic production of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1). Achieving this balance is a clinical objective in hormonal health to ensure adequate tissue repair, metabolic regulation, and maintenance of lean body mass, particularly as endogenous GH secretion naturally declines with age.
