Somatotropic Axis Antagonism

Meaning

A state of physiological or pathological resistance where the biological actions of the Somatotropic Axis, comprising Growth Hormone (GH) and Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), are functionally impaired or actively counteracted by opposing signals. This antagonism is often driven by chronic inflammation, nutrient overload, or excess cortisol, leading to reduced tissue responsiveness to anabolic signals. It is a primary mechanism contributing to age-related catabolism, metabolic dysfunction, and reduced regenerative capacity.
