Somatotroph Stimulation

Meaning

Somatotroph stimulation is the process of activating the somatotroph cells located in the anterior pituitary gland to synthesize and secrete Growth Hormone (GH). This physiological process is primarily mediated by Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) from the hypothalamus or by pharmacological agents known as Growth Hormone Secretagogues (GHSs). Clinical stimulation is employed to assess pituitary function or to therapeutically increase systemic GH and subsequent IGF-1 levels for anabolic and regenerative purposes.
