Somatotroph Regulation

Meaning

Somatotroph Regulation refers to the complex neuroendocrine control mechanisms that govern the synthesis and pulsatile secretion of growth hormone (GH) by the somatotroph cells located in the anterior pituitary gland. This regulatory system is primarily controlled by the opposing actions of hypothalamic hormones: growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), which stimulates release, and somatostatin (SRIF), which inhibits it. Optimal somatotroph regulation is crucial for maintaining the necessary GH and subsequent IGF-1 levels required for adult metabolism, body composition, and tissue repair.
