Somatotroph Dysfunction

Meaning

A pathological state characterized by the impaired function of the somatotroph cells within the anterior pituitary gland, resulting in an abnormal secretion profile of Growth Hormone (GH). This dysfunction can manifest as either GH deficiency or, less commonly, GH excess. Precise diagnosis of somatotroph dysfunction is necessary to address related metabolic, cardiovascular, and body composition abnormalities.
