Somatotroph Desensitization

Meaning

Somatotroph desensitization describes a physiological state where somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary gland exhibit diminished responsiveness to growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). This leads to a reduction in growth hormone (GH) secretion. This adaptive process occurs following prolonged or excessive GHRH exposure, modulating pituitary output.
