Somatotroph Cell Stimulation

Meaning

The physiological or pharmacological process of inducing the somatotroph cells, which are specialized endocrine cells located in the anterior pituitary gland, to synthesize and release growth hormone (GH), also known as somatotropin. This stimulation is a key therapeutic target in addressing age-related growth hormone deficiency or in specific diagnostic tests for pituitary function. The overall goal is to enhance the pulsatile secretion of endogenous GH, which subsequently drives the production of IGF-1 in the liver.
