Meaning

A Somatotroph is a specialized cell type located within the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland, responsible for the synthesis and pulsatile secretion of Growth Hormone, also known as Somatotropin. These acidophilic cells are the most abundant cell type in the anterior pituitary and are essential for regulating somatic growth during childhood and maintaining metabolic balance, body composition, and tissue repair throughout the lifespan. It is the core cellular component of the somatotropic axis.
