Somatostatin Withdrawal

Meaning

The physiological reduction in the secretion of the inhibitory hormone somatostatin (also known as Growth Hormone-Inhibiting Hormone, GHIH) from the hypothalamus, which is a necessary prerequisite for the pulsatile release of Growth Hormone (GH) from the pituitary gland. This withdrawal is a key regulatory event that dictates the timing and amplitude of the nocturnal GH surge, which is essential for anabolic processes.
