Somatostatin Dominance Signaling

Meaning

Somatostatin Dominance Signaling refers to a pathological state where the inhibitory neuropeptide Somatostatin exerts an abnormally pronounced or prolonged suppressive effect on various endocrine and exocrine functions throughout the body. While Somatostatin normally acts to regulate growth hormone, insulin, and thyroid-stimulating hormone secretion, its dominance can lead to systemic hypofunction of these axes. Clinically, this can manifest as Growth Hormone Axis Suppression, impaired glucose tolerance, and general metabolic slowdown, reflecting a powerful biological braking mechanism. This dominance is often a consequence of chronic inflammatory or stress states.
