Somatostatin Antagonism

Meaning

Somatostatin Antagonism describes the pharmacological intervention aimed at blocking or neutralizing the inhibitory actions of the peptide hormone somatostatin (SST) on other endocrine and paracrine secretions. Since somatostatin acts as a universal brake on hormone release, antagonizing its effect effectively removes this suppression, allowing for increased secretion of targeted hormones. This technique is employed to elevate specific hormonal outputs that are otherwise suppressed. We are releasing the brake on endocrine function.
