Somatostatin Analogues

Meaning

Somatostatin analogues are synthetic pharmaceutical compounds engineered to structurally mimic the potent biological activity of the naturally occurring hypothalamic peptide hormone somatostatin. These agents are clinically utilized to suppress the excessive secretion of various hormones, including growth hormone and thyroid-stimulating hormone, and to treat functional neuroendocrine tumors by inhibiting their hormone release and proliferation. They represent a targeted, receptor-mediated pharmacological strategy for the management of hormonal hypersecretion syndromes and certain malignancies.
