Somatopause Progression

Meaning

Somatopause Progression describes the predictable, age-related decline in the function of the somatotropic axis, characterized by a progressive reduction in the pulsatile secretion of Growth Hormone (GH) and the resulting decrease in Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) levels. This progression is a universal feature of human aging, leading to detrimental changes in body composition, including reduced lean mass and increased visceral fat accumulation. It is a primary hormonal contributor to sarcopenia and frailty.
