Somatopause Decline

Meaning

Somatopause Decline is the clinical term for the progressive, age-related reduction in the pulsatile secretion of Growth Hormone (GH) and the subsequent decrease in circulating Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) that occurs in middle to later adulthood. This endocrine change is associated with several physiological alterations, including decreased lean body mass, increased central adiposity, and reduced bone mineral density. Recognizing this decline is essential for addressing the changes in body composition and metabolic function that accompany aging.
