Somatopause Biological Markers

Meaning

Somatopause Biological Markers are quantifiable biochemical indicators in the blood or tissues that reflect the progressive decline in the somatotropic axis—the production of Growth Hormone (GH) and its downstream mediator, Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1)—that occurs with advancing age, a condition termed somatopause. Key markers include low serum levels of IGF-1, reduced GH pulsatility, and altered ratios of specific IGF binding proteins. Clinically, these markers are used to diagnose somatopause and monitor the efficacy of growth hormone-releasing therapies.
