Somatopause Assessment

Meaning

This clinical evaluation process is specifically designed to measure and interpret the functional status of the somatotropic axis, which involves the production and action of Growth Hormone (GH) and Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), to diagnose the age-related decline known as somatopause. The assessment quantifies the degree of GH deficiency, which is a common feature of aging, and correlates these findings with clinical symptoms like reduced lean body mass, altered body composition, and diminished vitality. This diagnostic step is crucial for determining the need for and safely guiding Growth Hormone Replacement Therapy (GHRT). The evaluation requires dynamic testing to accurately gauge pituitary reserve.
