Somatic Sensory Input

Meaning

Somatic Sensory Input refers to the afferent neurological signals originating from receptors in the skin, muscles, joints, and internal organs that provide the central nervous system with continuous information about the body’s state and interaction with the external environment. This input includes touch, temperature, pain (nociception), and proprioception. The quality and coherence of this input are critical for maintaining the body’s internal representation, posture, and modulating the overall state of the autonomic nervous system.
