Somatic Regulation

Meaning

The body’s innate, subconscious capacity to self-monitor and adjust its physiological and psychological state in response to internal and external stimuli, often involving the autonomic nervous system and the musculoskeletal system. In a clinical context, it refers to the therapeutic process of enhancing this self-regulatory capacity to improve emotional resilience, reduce chronic tension, and restore homeostatic balance. Effective somatic regulation is foundational for mitigating the physical manifestations of stress.
