Somatic Grounding

Meaning

A therapeutic and self-regulatory practice that intentionally shifts an individual’s conscious attention away from cognitive rumination and emotional distress toward the immediate, tangible sensory experience of the physical body (soma) in the present moment. This technique is a direct, non-pharmacological method for modulating the autonomic nervous system by engaging the vagal brake and promoting a parasympathetic dominant state. Somatic grounding is a fundamental clinical tool for rapid stress reduction, emotional homeostasis, and improving interoceptive awareness.
