Soluble Adhesion Molecules

Meaning

Soluble Adhesion Molecules are circulating proteins released from the surface of cells, primarily endothelial cells and leukocytes, following enzymatic cleavage of their transmembrane counterparts. These molecules, such as sICAM-1, sVCAM-1, and sE-selectin, circulate freely in the bloodstream and act as indicators of cellular activation, particularly in response to inflammatory stimuli or endothelial stress.
