Sleep Phase Advancement

Meaning

A chronobiological strategy or clinical phenomenon where an individual’s internal circadian rhythm, and consequently their preferred timing for sleep and wakefulness, is shifted to an earlier point in the 24-hour cycle. This advancement is often a therapeutic goal for individuals with delayed sleep phase syndrome or can occur naturally with aging. Successful phase advancement involves systematically adjusting environmental cues to synchronize the body’s internal clock to an earlier schedule.
