Sleep Latency

Meaning

The physiological measure of the amount of time it takes an individual to transition from full wakefulness to the first stage of sleep. This metric is a key objective parameter in sleep studies, reflecting the speed of sleep onset. Clinically, a prolonged sleep latency often indicates an underlying sleep initiation disorder, such as insomnia, which can be intimately linked to endocrine and neurological imbalances.
